Opening Day Intro Video
WELCOME TO OUR CLASS!
Prepare for class when you enter. Gather your classsupplies. Fill out your planner. If you are late be sure to have a pass or note and then prepare as quickly as you can. Food and drink should not be brought to our class. This is because we often use computers, calculators and other science equipment that can be damaged when liquids get spilled. Also, we wouldn't want you to accidentally touch science materials and then put something in your mouth tainted with science "chemicals."
Circumstances at Acacia sometimes mean that students are pulled from class or turn in work late. If you miss a due date, simply turn in the work the next day. If you are pulled from class or absent, check TeacherEase. If you finish your work early...there are plenty of "extension" activities in the room for you to do. If you need time during the school day to make up work ('cuz who likes homework?), remember you can always come to my room during lunch and make up work or work on homework.
From time to time we need a break, this is why it is important to be responsible for your daily pass. Use your pass to get water, take a break or use the bathroom. Students without a pass will be sent back to their first period teacher to get a pass.

What is SBG?
Standards-Based Grading (SBG) is a system of reporting student proficiency in a number of specific learning goals (or standards). Rather than give students one grade on a test that assessed multiple skills, this system gives students a number of scores that represent their proficiency in each of the skills assessed. The idea is that at the end of the class a student has mastered the essential content necessary for the next level. SBG focuses on knowledge, not on points. Your grade from this class will be an average of scores received for various standards on all assessments. You will have a minimum of four assessments each quarter.
